Abstract

Recently there is a growing tendency that the patients who have been suffered from diabetes mellitus itself and its various kinds of complications increase among the surgical candidates. The meticulous management of these diabetic patients perioperatively is very important and essential to the surgeons and the anesthesiologists in order to perform the safe surgical operation. Therefore the author reviews the outline of diabetes mellitus such as classification, pathogenesis, pathophysiology, complications, diagnosis and treatment, and perioperative diabetic management including anesthesia.
